Student Board Member

I am currently in my third year at Lewis & Clark College, studying Marriage Couple, and Family Therapy. Before choosing to attend Lewis & Clark College, I worked for three years in public education. This gave me the opportunity to work closely with youth ranging from early elementary age to college age, and working in education, I often learned not only what my students were facing in school, but also what their families were going through. A topic that often came up was grief and loss, and I began wondering how I could better support students through these difficult and painful transitions. Today, I continue to be invested in working with children and families who are experiencing grief and also volunteer and am interning at The Dougy Center, one of my favorite nonprofits in Portland that focuses specifically on supporting children through the death of a loved one. My future goals are to someday be a licensed Child and Family Therapist with a focus on childhood trauma, and I hope to someday find a way to incorporate expressive arts and gardening into my therapy practice. In my free time I love being outdoors and spending time with my husband and two cats. I appreciate NW ADEBS and this organization’s dedication to challenging the stigma and secrecy surrounding death and loss, and bringing professionals from all different walks of life and background to the conversation. I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity to serve as a student board member.
